The Story
Expression and safety. The crisp line of a mountain's crest against the sky gives me a feeling of stability and mystery.
I created this piece during an unplanned day off, where I just needed to care for myself. Feeling like an infant torn from her mother's breast, I recalled the soothing sight of Mt. Rainier. Those with PTSD can attest to the inexplicable nature of triggers. But whatever the antithesis, there is healing available on the trail.
This painting was a vital part of my recovery that day. I created this image while outdoors in the sun, getting some much needed vitamin D. The outdoors can heal the nervous system and provide a sense of God's unconditional acceptance.
Tahoma has been the jewel on my horizon my whole life, and I have tried never to take her for granted. I am not an indigenous person, but I appreciate the depth of majesty ascribed to this monolith by all those generations before me who have called the Pacific Northwest home.
My prayer is that the swirls and colors soothe you and evoke a sense of the wonder and beauty beneath the rough edges of life's difficult moments.
