The Story
I first saw Mt. Shuksan way back in 2014, while I was attending Canada Institute of Linguistics in Langley, BC. Ptarmigan Ridge, in the North Cascades was one of the most beautiful hikes I had ever been on in Washington state.
Sometimes trauma can scramble joyful memories like this one. Crisis and depression can poison them. That's where I was at when I painted this. My life was in chaos and pain. Like splattered blood, my pain was raw. Like a sunset, it felt like an end to so many things. But I still cling to a thread of hope that God may be doing something beautiful. And that is the color and chaos of this piece.
