What started as a playful splash of colors on an old canvas, soon became a mediation on my own childhood through an old photo of my daughter.

The colors and splashes of white evoke imagination and play, while the downward gaze, to me, feels either focus or contemplation. If she is focused, it is in that un-self-conscious way that a child or an artist in flow experiences when they are utterly in the moment. If it is contemplation (which I often experienced as a child), then the slight smile injects calm into the moment; a salve for my memories of existential anxiety as a child.
